God Is Our Protector

God Is Our Protector

As a new parent with a toddler, I’m concerned daily for her safety and protection. Wherever we are, I scan our environment for potential hazards, removing delicate or harmful items from her little hands’ reach. I run to catch my daughter before she falls, hold her hand as she climbs the stairs, and pick her up to carry her through a crowd. I put sunscreen on her before we go outside and wrap her in a warm blanket when it is cold. As a parent, I do my utmost to protect my little girl from any and all harm. God, as our loving heavenly Father, desires to protect us from anyone or anything that could harm us. As the all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present One, God is able and willing to use the vast resources at His disposal to provide protection to those that trust in Him.

Because God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present, He alone is capable of being our greatest protector.

Deuteronomy 3:24:
O Lord God, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God
is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

No one can rival God in strength and ability. There is no other power in heaven or on earth that can do all of what God can do. Not only is He all-powerful, God is also all-knowing (I John 3:20) and everywhere present (Psalms 139:7,8). He is truly capable of being our complete salvation, our unfailing safety, our greatest protection.

How do we enjoy God’s protection in our lives?

Psalms 5:11,12:
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest
[cover over, protect] them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as
with a shield.

Trusting in God is how we enjoy His protection in our lives. God, our protector, is all-powerful, all-knowing, and He is with us in every situation. We never need to be afraid of anyone or anything because our God is capable of being our protector.

God will use the vast resources at His disposal to provide the necessary protection to those who trust in Him. One of the ways He has done this is by sending Jesus Christ to save us. Because He loved us, God willingly gave His Son for us, making available everlasting life, protection via salvation for all eternity.

John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Those that believe in God’s Son (Romans 10:9,10) are protected from everlasting death, having the promise of everlasting life. Only God could make available such protection. What love and what willingness of heart God has for us, to have given His Son in order to provide us safety and protection for all eternity.

Whenever we call upon His name, God is there for us (Psalms 9:10). He promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Out of love, God gave His only begotten Son to save us and to provide us with spiritual power (Acts 1:8) and protection. If we feel threatened by anyone or anything, we can remind ourselves of the truths written to us in Romans and become fully persuaded of them.

Romans 8:31,32,35,38,39:
What shall we then say to these things? If God
be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No matter what we face—whether it be mental distress, physical danger, or spiritual persecution—God is willing and able to protect us (Romans 4:21). He gave His only begotten Son for us. What else would He not do to protect His own!

As the all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present One, God can and will use the vast resources at His disposal to provide protection to those that trust in Him. Even more than parents can love and protect their children, God loves us and desires to protect us from anyone and anything that could harm us. His willingness to protect us is as vast and infinite as His ability to protect us, and there is nothing that He will not do to protect His own. Let’s walk fearlessly in all we do, fully persuaded that God is willing and able to be our greatest protector!
