Making God Our Sufficiency

October 2009

I Timothy 2:4:
Who
[God] will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Romans 10:12:
...for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

God is always showing His wonderful love, that thereby men may be won to Him. It is the purpose and will of God that all may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. It’s God’s will to bless all, to provide for and be the sufficiency for every man, woman, and child. God is our never-ending source of supply.

The first step for anyone desiring to receive God’s sufficiency is to be saved, to believe God’s Word as written in Romans 10:9 and 10.

Romans 10:9,10:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Once we have confessed Jesus as lord and believed in our heart that God has raised him from the dead, we are saved, born again. Then we receive power and strength from God. We are given God’s sufficiency. God has given us everything we need to live an abundant life—physically and spiritually.

II Corinthians 3:5:
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency
is of God.

What does God’s sufficiency include for us spiritually as born-again believers?

We are accepted by God.

Ephesians 1:6:
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

We are redeemed and have received remission of sins.

Ephesians 1:7:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness
[remission] of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

We are part of God’s household.

Ephesians 2:19:
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.

We are adequate to share in God’s inheritance.

Colossians 1:12:
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet
[adequate, sufficient] to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.

We have been rescued from the power of darkness.

Colossians 1:13:
Who
[God] hath delivered [rescued] us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.

We are complete, not lacking one thing.

Colossians 2:10:
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

God has made us complete, He has redeemed us, He forgives our sins, and we are accepted in His sight. Considering how much He gave us spiritually, would He do less for us in the physical realm?

Philippians 4:19:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

III John 2:
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

John 10:10:
...I
[Jesus Christ, God’s Son] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Along with knowing that God is our sufficiency spiritually and physically, there is something else we can do. We can make Him our sufficiency practically. Two keys to making God our sufficiency on a practical, everyday basis are aggressive believing and systematic giving.

Recognizing that God is our source of supply is a necessary ingredient in making Him our sufficiency on a practical level. We convince ourselves of this truth by seeking out the promises in His Word. Then we appropriate God’s promises by believing. And believing is acting on the Word, walking out on the truth. It means being fully persuaded that what God has promised, He is willing and able to perform.

Romans 4:21:
And being fully persuaded that, what he
[God] had promised, he [God] was able also to perform.

Aggressive believing is refusing to quit until we see God’s promise come to pass in an area of our life.

Another key to making God our sufficiency on a practical level is systematically giving back to Him. As we sow bountifully, we reap bountifully. As we cheerfully give from our hearts, we receive. Giving allows us to externally manifest what we believe on the inside—that it is God Who is our source of supply and is our sufficiency.

Giving back to God makes us aware of our partnership with God in the material and financial realms as well as the spiritual. It is a concrete way to prove to ourselves that God is our sufficiency. Giving back to God cultivates the concept of sufficiency and abundance and eradicates the concept of lack.

II Corinthians 9:6,7:
But this
I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart,
so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

We can live without fear of lack and without concern about the future. God is our sufficiency, our never-ending source of supply. When we aggressively believe the promises of God and systematically give back to the One Who supplies our every need, we will not only have what we need, but we will also have an abundance with which to help others.

And we will be able to say as the psalmist recorded:

Psalms 37:25:
I have been young, and
now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
