The light of God’s Word shone brightly at high altitude in the high country of Camp Gunnison—The Way Household Ranch, where the first of two Advanced Class for Grads Camps took place May 1–9, 2021. This camp gave Advanced Class graduates the opportunity to retake the advanced class on The Way of Abundance and Power in its entirety and enjoy the beautiful setting of springtime in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Excited campers, representing twenty states in the United States, arrived on Saturday, May 1 to register for this camp.
Rev. Tom Horrocks, the Chief Executive Officer of Camp Gunnison, served as the Class coordinator and Joseph Latta, the Grounds coordinator at Camp Gunnison, assisted. Supporting the Advanced Class for Grads Camp alongside the Staff were first-year students of the in-residence Way Corps training program, Way Corps Fifty-one.
An abundance of God’s Word filled the campers’ schedule, with a livestream of the Sunday Teaching Service on May 2 and then three Advanced Class sessions a day. Many campers expressed what a blessing it was to be fully immersed in the Word for an extended period of time.
With as much of God’s Word as the campers were receiving and retaining, they also had many opportunities to release, or share, what they were learning. The schedule included time for the participants to meet in “share pairs,” groups of two or three, where they took turns talking about the Word and what blessed them from the class sessions.
The beautiful Household Commons served as the hub of activity for the camp. Not only was it the location for all the class sessions, but it was also where the participants enjoyed their meals together. Just like the believers in the Book of Acts, they “…did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart” (Acts 2:46).
The campers spent much of their free time enjoying the sweet fellowship of like-minded believers, strengthening spiritual bonds, and building new friendships. The class schedule interspersed fun surprises throughout the camp that brought big smiles to their faces. One surprise came by way of a live Zoom call with the President of The Way International, Rev. Vern Edwards, and his wife Jill. They were blessed to send love and greetings from all the Staff and in-residence Way Corps at Headquarters.
During a special fellowship to close out the camp, the campers had the joy of meeting the Camp Gunnison Staff and in-residence Way Corps who supported the event with their labor of love. Then the campers had the opportunity to share with the whole group what their time in the Word meant to them, what they learned, and some of the blessings they enjoyed.
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Holding forth the word of life….
